I really hate message boards that require you to click a link in an email whenever you sign up. It's not like any of these sites actually use the address I give them, so why on earth does it have to be valid? The worst part is that these sites often take quite a while to send me the "key" email, leaving me unable to access anything useful on them. I often lose interest before I can use the site at all. C'mon!
