Swann Renewed

  • November 3, 2005
I went to explore the newly-renovated Swann Building, where the Modern Languages department has moved back in along the reflective hardwood-lined hallways and deeply stained wood-trim doors. I never regarded it as an "ugly" building before, but it had somewhat gracefully aged, and I guess the school decided that it was time to start over. In any case, the renovations look excellent, and they remind me particularly of the style adopted in the J. S. Coon building, which finished its renovation about a year or so ago. This is mostly evident in the greenish platform in the top left of this photo, upon which some lights are mounted; Coon has similar features. If you look at the related photos, you'll see that they've spared no expense, complete with plasma displays for the student lounge. I guess that's the latest thing for new buildings on campus (reference: every building in Tech Square), but I think they're generally a waste of money.

Whoa, that looks absolutely beautiful! The last Japanese classes I took were in a building near the Coliseum and in Bunger-Henry...I can't wait to come back and take a look at Modlangs. I heard they renovated the LCC offices as well.

Can't you just picture a squeaky tricycle rolling around on those floors with mysterious twin girls roaming the hallways?
