Today I spent a bit of time making a list of features I want in the new photo archive system. There have been some politics relating to the new Technique "server" that has been purchased, but I'm not too worried about the outcome as we've got some time to iron things out. As for the name, I've become attached to
pogo hatchet which is an anagram of
gatech photo; it's unique, aurally non-ambiguous, and has the underlying attachment to the group. It's not the kind of thing that I think people will be comfortable with (at first), but it's the kind of name that might grow on us. We'll see when we discuss the project next week. I'm also battling with how to distribute the work. I have put a lot of thought into the project, and I would like to create most of it, but I want to collaborate as much as possible so that I'm not selfish about the whole thing. I really want to avoid the one-man show style of programming, which is what has prevented the current system from being easily extended once the current author is gone (no offense to the current author, but he has admitted that he doesn't have any interest in maintaining it). Also, since I have no classes until January, I figure that it's appropriate for me to contribute the most. Again, we'll see.
