College Students Get Classy

  • February 1, 2006
I wish I had the free time to recreate my online existence. I want a true text blog with friends-only abilities, as I currently have no way to spill my guts without full public scrutiny. I want to keep this photoblog because it's too much fun to maintain, but I'm not sure how I'd properly relate the two blogs without them being completely separate sites. I suppose that wouldn't be so bad, though. I also need some sort of corporate page that I can proudly post on resumes or business cards without worrying that the content is too informal, as it is here.

Things that are currently keeping me busy:
  • Class projects, like the multithreaded web server I have to write for CS 4210
  • Work, which is mostly working in Flash at the moment
  • Sr. Photo (photo archive system for the Technique)

Now that I'm enrolled in my first real CS class (the freshman ones didn't count), I've recently come to appreciate how much better the CS website is than the ECE website (my major). Primarily, professors in CS are expected to use specifically designated web space for each specific class, in each term. This means that you can predictably find your class's website simply by understanding the url structure, which is straightforward. In ECE, on the other hand, it's up to each professor to use his or her personal web space and provide you with the URL, which means that your class could be anywhere: on the ECE server, on their personal server, on another department's server, whatever. It might also get overwritten each semester, leaving you without archives. Not fun!

so what are their policies on photography inside the museum? it would appear to be very strict of not prohibited.

The two I noticed mostly are: You can't use a flash, and you can't use photos commercially. There were some other points but I don't remember them specifically.
