This was probably our most successful session, led by the great Lego king, Dr. Jeff Davis. After Dr. Davis gave them an overview of the simple course we had put together, we gave them their tackleboxes full of parts and let them go at it for a bit. After about 30 minutes I took aside a member of each group to give him/her an overview of the graphical programming environment, which is amazingly well-conceived. It makes the flow of logic very clear, and though certain complicated structures are not really feasible (compared to text-based languages), it does offer variable manipulation, if-then statements, and loops.
After three hours we had to tell the students to wrap things up, and it's clear that the next camp session will have a full day (two sessions) of Legos rather than a single 3-hour session.
