Hydrous
Static Shock
- December 8, 2006
With the cold, dry weather, I've been getting shocked constantly with the aid of my fleece jacket and any other sort of friction between myself and the carpet, or the car seat, or my computer chair. I finally stopped and decided to capture this common occurrence, and this is what you get. This arc is between my door stop and a pair of scissors that I'm holding.

Ethan this is F-ing amazing. So worth the wait. It may even beat out your old 11 sunsets picture...maybe. I love the character of the 30 coats of paint on the door too. Have a great day love ya!

Us semi-engineery types find it pretty freaking awesome, too. :D How did you do it? Did you set the camera up to do an extended exposure, or did you just snap a photo at the right time, or what?

Er--WE semi-engineery types. :( Crazy how being an English teacher sends your command of the English language out the window. ;P

The exposure time was 1 second, after the 10-second self timer on the camera. While the timer was blinking down, I slowly took off my fleece making sure to rub it along my arms and shuffle on the carpet for good measure. Once the shutter opened, I moved in with the scissors. I did it three times and the static arc was longest in the third.
