Frozen Lake Divide

Saturday night I was able to see this magnificent sight, about an hour's drive outside Colorado Springs, in Eleven Mile Park. To get a sense of scale, note the footprints on the right side leading out to the ice.

Allison and I listened to the silence, interrupted only by the sounds of the ice shifting. At times the lake made deep booming noises like those a whale might produce, and at other times the sounds seemed closer to the surface. I recorded a bit of audio that I'll upload soon.

I thought you said you went to Colorado, but you took a trip to the arctic circle instead? Sneaky.

Do you see, now, why I so desperately want to live in Colorado?

I still refuse to believe this was taken during the evening rather than the morning.
