Southtrust No More

  • July 17, 2005
I watched a helicopter lift the letters A, I, V, O, H, C, A, and W in that order onto the side of the new building that previously belonged to Southtrust. Now that it has merged with Wachovia, the relatively young letters of the word "Southtrust" have already been removed in favor of the new name.

On the return trip from IHOP with Tom and Matt, we noticed the crews beginning on the opposite side of the building, so I pulled over across the interstate and snapped photos as the V was hoisted into the air by a beefy helicopter. We then drove to a better viewpoint to watch the O lowered into place. It's interesting to note that the helicopter method is different than the one used when the original name was being mounted, when crews hoisted the letters up the side of the building instead.

The photo is a bit noisy because it's pushing the resolution of my camera at a distance of about half a mile, using a 200mm lens.

isn't it cool when you can link to a previous photo/entry that you've taken/written? i think it has to do with the sense of continuity, or something.
